Let`s Talk -- how was you day today !!

Re: Let`s Talk -- how was you day today !!

Thanks @Carlachris, I'm still trying to get my head around how this forum is used properly.

Re: Let`s Talk -- how was you day today !!

@Chrissy1

I have found as a carer that getting some support is invaluable.  Psych education was really helpful for me - learning about my husband's diagnosis made a huge difference as well as learning coping methods (I have done this by seeing counselors and doing a carers "snapshot class" with Wellways - they operate in Melbourne).  Learning how to set 'boundaries' which are relationship rules that govern how we interact with our loved ones that protect our hearts as well as reducing 'expressed emotion'  which is inappropriate responses to our loved ones disorders can lead to better outcomes for all concerned.

Re: Let`s Talk -- how was you day today !!

Boundaries are wonderful until they are jumped by triggers. Containing the boundaries is sometimes what exhausts me the most. Baby steps back to within a reasonably healthy life are what I try for these days and I live a quiet life with my husband in the country. Which for us is much more accepting of my husbands ways and moods. Much better support for us in a smaller community. Less isolation and loneliness. It helps to live in a beautiful part of the country. Long walks with the dog.

Yes, I can recommend Carers Vic - I have used them and found them to be a tremendous help when things are getting too much. They really understand about how carers can often get burnt out. They are great at talking things through and setting boundaries to avoid nasty arguements and exhaustion. You can get 6 free sessions

Hello @merri, how are you today xx

Hello @Carlachris, @Former-Member, @Chrissy1 Heart

Re: Let`s Talk -- how was you day today !!

Thank you very much for your response @Former-Member. Yes, at the moment I am grappling with this issue of "reducing expressed emotion" as inappropriate response....to my daughter...the inevitable build up of stress as a carer when one doesn't get to debrief.  There is the roller coaster ride of managing, feeling in control then a build up of pressure and the inevitable outburst. The shut down or "respite" from it is for the most part, is just as debilitating...Anyway thanks for the tip with W\ellways. I will follow up.

All the best Chrissy 1 from Chrissy 2 unfortunately in a similar boat. Big hugs.
