The Weekly Friday Feast

Re: The Weekly Friday Feast

Thanks for the recipe @eth - come to think of it, I don't I've ever tried this dish. Will need to give the recipe ago.

@Former-Member that's great to hear that you did yoga and made yourself an epic salad! What was in it? It seems not many of on here are as clean as we think we 'should' be. But who says how clean and tidy we need to be and when? We're all different, and when we compare ourselves to others (which is an easy thing to do), it can make us feel abnormal. Everybody goes through tough times at different points, so we're all at different, and that's great - I don't think it mean one is 'more' functional than another, we're all just experiencing our own unique journeys.

Re: The Weekly Friday Feast

Hi @Former-Member. I was late too, just arrived a little while ago. I haven't done much cooking for myself for years either and also recently did some cooking with a wonderful feeling of achievement. I don't think there is a measure of functionality on this forum. We're all struggling along with you. Great to hear you got in some relationship counselling so quickly. I'm sure you will connect with Partners in Recovery eventually and I really hope they are able to offer effective assistance. Great that you went twice to yoga again. I'm still a no show at Tai Chi but haven't given up hope of getting there sometime.

Re: The Weekly Friday Feast

@Former-Member - I sometimes do, too - it's hard to always have to think about what to cook. Glad to hear you made an epic salad. 😄 Good food in the belly and shelter always makes things easier.

@Appleblossom - now my rollers move! 😄 Victory!

Re: The Weekly Friday Feast

Lol @CannonSalt

Glad there was a logical connection to the cleaning behaviour ... and not just excessive hygeine syndrome.

I am tending to think that some of the allergies and immune related illness are tied to over clean houses ... and kids no longer being able to develop tolerance due to gradual low level exposure of bugs etc

just me ... but a few other think that too ..I think there are studies now about reintroducing even very serious allergens in very controlled doses ... to help patient better respond to them in future ...

I used to garden and say to myself "this is clean dirt" while being upset by the super clean homes of my rich rellies and their lack of regard for us.

Re: The Weekly Friday Feast

Thanks @Mazarita & @CherryBomb - I'm a professional at comparing myself to other people 😛

The salad had baby spinach, grated carrot, corn, peas, mung beans, chickpeas, beetroot, tomatoes, snow peas with balsamic vinegar.

I do like keeping things tidy, but it is a bit hard at the moment as I am living in a cabin (what mining workers live in). We will have more room eventually when my partner finishes doing up a shipping container into the bedroom. My living situation is very complex. We live on my partner's mothers farm. It is far from ideal for me, but it is our only option at the moment as my partner ceased working to be my registered carer.

I actually called Relationships Australia, but they were booked out for the whole week. I think the receptionist heard the desperation in my voice & tears as she called another free service, then lifeline & we got lucky & saw someone really good. We are going again on Monday. My partner has carers fatigue. We have been together for 12 years.

I usually don't feel like going to yoga, but I make myself do it anyhow & feel benefit from it - even if it is only during the practise. It also gives me a sense of achievement.

You will get to tai chi - I still need to get back into running. I went for a 6km apx walk with my partner last Sunday.

Re: The Weekly Friday Feast

Been busy packing up the old house to go into storage until it can be rented out to someone new and then we can look for somewhere new. Feel behind everywhere!! I'm so tired of moving!!

Re: The Weekly Friday Feast

@Former-Member you could just leave out the eggs and chorizo and use vegie stock and have a yummy vegan dish I think.  And I think the tortillas only have cornmeal and water in them.

@Appleblossom I think there's also an association between over-use of antibiotics and the development of stronger bugs.  The topic of food intolerances and immunity has always interested me.

Re: The Weekly Friday Feast

Moving is tiring & stressful....

Re: The Weekly Friday Feast

Oh, @Appleblossom , trust me, my room isn't 'sparkling clean' like you imagine. The desk chair rollers were a matter of necessity, with windows open wide to let out the dust bunnies. 😄

There's a lot of interesting research going on now looking at gut bacteria, etc. Living with dogs as a wee kidlet, eating fermented foods, washing dishes by hand (and sponge) rather than a dishwasher... etc.

Re: The Weekly Friday Feast

@Former-Member Good on you for getting some packing done. Things always seem to be behind when moving. Hoping you get some rest soon.

@Former-Member A 6km walk sounds great. I'd have trouble making that distance. The salad sounds delicious. You are giving me ideas. Maybe I too can make a hearty salad for dinner one night. I think I will make it to Tai Chi at some point. A few things happening at once at the moment, some are falling down. I will keep trying. Cat Happy
