I think it is great to have burnout as a topic with the list of symptoms for people to rate themselves on. It's not often that we stop, think and connect with how we really feel. I think it would be a good idea to keep the symptom list and re-assess ourselves on a regular (e.g. monthly basis). It may be a good way of remaining aware of where we are at on the burnout scale and trying to intervene with self-care strategies before we hit a 5 ... or beyond.

Me too @Determined I can identify with virtually every item on the checklist - & I tend to underestimate my symptoms...

Do you have any suggestions for recovery from Burnout @NikNik?
I can think of some:
Time-out (difficult to get often)
Relaxation
Exercise

So moving on to what can help with burnout - as most of us have discovered and mentioned tonight, we don't know we're at burnout until we're there (often because we feel like we have no choice but to keep up our level of energy focusing on someone else).
A lot of the literature and resources related to ‘burnout’ is in reference to the workplace. However, across all different causes of burnout, there are some consistent tangible things that is helpful – some of which is likely to be obvious. Such as:
It’s important to get the right balance.
If you’re anything like me, the moment I know burnout is creeping in, is when I start buying take away more frequently
Those three things seem to be the most common ways to manage burnout.
There are two more that I want to talk about in a moment, but just to start with - I have a feeling you guys may find the above points really obvious - would that be a fair assumption?
Does that mean they don't work for you or that you're just not finding the time / capacity / motivation to make these changes?

I also often underestimate my symptoms until it i too late @Adge
I was told a number of years ago by a dr that I needed to make changes before it was too late but thought I had little option as I needed to keep my job in order to support my family... well now I cant support my family and rely on centrelink anyway.
