The Australian movie Shine was 13 years before the American one which on reflection says a bit about Americans so called progressiveness and our backwardness .... hmmmm. I never saw many films at the time when they were showing in cinemas until last couple years.
I generally like our films. DId you see Ladies in Black? @outlander
Ill finish the Handmaids Tale soon. It annoyed me a bit when I first watched as being overly manipulative and too hysterical .... hmmmm. in that sense I distanced a bit from the characters rather than the intention which is to make you feel for them. I felt the makers needed a reality check.

@outlander Margeret Attwood is a feminst and I agree with many of her ideas. It is based on a society that might occur, speculative fiction, an extension of fear of right fundamentalist thinking and culture in America. Feminist scifi. On one level I loved the cinematography, camera angles etc. The colonies are based on Russian and WWII camps, with a modern take.
On a mental health level I need to be careful about being effected by negative moods in film.
Hey @Shaz51 Thinking of you in the heat. Hope you have not melted and are in one piece.
