My 2 old man cats 15yo have been with us since they were kittens. They get along well enough but each likes their space too. So in my house it evolved as one is more indoor and the other is more outdoor. It has become their natural style and they use the catdoor, but I am often the butler too.
Some people hate cats that hunt but my son really enjoyed learning about natural instincts through our cats behaviours. It taught him about being human. I am ambivalent about it and bell him every now and then but he, the cat, always finds a way to wriggle out of it. Now my outdoor boy is the closest thing I have to anyone being my guardian. He takes me for little midnight walks and checks out all and sundry near our house.
I tend to agree about not being too controlling over animals or humans ... its a delicate balance .. we still have plenty of bird life and the area out the front is vibrant and beautiful. All who meet the cat love him as his very social .. my dirty flirty cat ... sadly though he has sun cancer now ... and other health issues ... but had a very good 15 years ... as KING of the COURT.
Viva la difference!
I also like the symmetry of celtic designs.
